This Data Use Policy governs the use of weather and environmental data made available through the LNX Solutions Weather Network, including data displayed on the public website, dashboards, maps, data feeds, exports, APIs and related services operated by LNX Solutions (Pty) Ltd.
1. Purpose
LNX Solutions makes selected weather and environmental data publicly accessible as a community resource for informational, educational, research, recreational and other non-commercial purposes.
We encourage responsible use of this data while protecting the operation, sustainability and future development of the LNX Weather Network.
2. Permitted Non-Commercial Use
Unless otherwise stated, data published by the LNX Weather Network may be used free of charge for non-commercial purposes, including:
- Personal and recreational use.
- Educational use.
- Academic and non-commercial research.
- Community projects.
- Amateur radio and environmental monitoring activities.
- Non-commercial websites, applications and visualisations.
- News, editorial and public-interest reporting.
- Analysis, graphing, mapping and statistical research.
Users may analyse, process, aggregate, visualise and reproduce the data for these purposes, subject to the attribution requirements below.
3. Attribution
Where LNX Weather Network data is reproduced, published, displayed or incorporated into another platform, reasonable attribution must be provided.

Where practical, attribution should include a link back to the LNX Weather Network website.
Attribution must not imply that LNX Solutions endorses, sponsors, certifies or is formally affiliated with the user, publication, application or service unless this has been agreed separately in writing.
4. Commercial, Institutional and Bulk Use
Commercial, institutional, bulk or systematic use of LNX Weather Network data requires prior written permission from LNX Solutions.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Reselling or sublicensing the data.
- Incorporating the data into a paid product or subscription service.
- Providing the data through a commercial API or platform.
- Using the data as a material component of a paid weather, agricultural, logistics, insurance, risk, environmental or similar service.
- Systematically collecting or storing the data for inclusion in a commercial database or dataset.
- Large-scale automated collection of current or historical data.
- Continuous ingestion of data into third-party operational systems.
- Use of the data by an organisation where the data forms a material part of a commercial or operational service.
LNX Solutions welcomes enquiries regarding:
- Commercial licensing.
- Institutional data-sharing agreements.
- Research partnerships.
- API access.
- Bulk historical datasets.
- Custom data feeds.
- Government or municipal data-sharing.
- Meteorological collaboration.
- Environmental monitoring partnerships.
Permission may be granted free of charge or subject to commercial, technical or contractual terms depending on the nature and scale of the intended use.
5. Research and Public-Interest Partnerships
LNX Solutions supports responsible research, environmental monitoring and public-interest initiatives.
Universities, research institutions, government bodies, meteorological organisations, municipalities, emergency services and similar organisations are encouraged to contact LNX Solutions where ongoing, bulk or automated access to the network is required.
Such access may be governed by a separate data-sharing agreement.
6. Automated Access and APIs
Where automated access, APIs or downloadable feeds are made available, users must use these services responsibly.
Users may not:
- Place excessive or unreasonable load on LNX infrastructure.
- Bypass technical controls, rate limits or authentication requirements.
- Attempt to gain access to information not intentionally made public.
- Interfere with the availability or performance of the service.
- Use automated scraping methods in a way that materially affects the platform.
LNX Solutions may introduce or amend reasonable rate limits, authentication requirements or technical controls where necessary.
Where continuous or high-volume access is required, users should contact LNX Solutions to arrange suitable access.
7. Derived Data and Visualisations
Users may create graphs, maps, calculations, statistics, models and other derived works from LNX Weather Network data for permitted purposes.
Where data has been materially processed, altered, averaged, modelled or interpreted by a third party, this should be made reasonably clear.
Derived information should not be presented in a way that suggests that it is an official product, forecast or conclusion produced by LNX Solutions unless agreed in writing.
8. Safety-Critical Use
LNX Weather Network data may not be represented as certified, guaranteed or suitable for safety-critical applications.
The data should not be relied upon as the sole source of information for decisions affecting life, property or critical infrastructure.
Users requiring weather information for safety-critical purposes must independently verify conditions using appropriate official sources.
9. Intellectual Property and Ownership
Making data publicly accessible does not transfer ownership of the underlying infrastructure, databases, software, station designs, branding, website, APIs or other intellectual property belonging to LNX Solutions or its partners.
The LNX Solutions name, logos and branding may not be used without permission other than for reasonable source attribution.
10. Availability and Continuity
Public access to LNX Weather Network data is provided on a best-effort basis.
LNX Solutions does not guarantee that:
- Any particular weather station will remain online.
- Data will be available continuously.
- Historical data will be retained indefinitely.
- APIs, feeds or data formats will remain unchanged.
- Every weather station will continue to be publicly accessible.
- A particular measurement or sensor type will remain available.
LNX Solutions may modify, suspend or discontinue any portion of the public data service where necessary.
11. Prohibited Uses
LNX Weather Network data may not be used:
- For unlawful or fraudulent purposes.
- In a manner that misrepresents the source of the data.
- In a way that falsely implies certification, endorsement or partnership by LNX Solutions.
- As a substitute for official weather warnings or emergency information.
- For unauthorised commercial, institutional or bulk use.
- In a manner that interferes with the operation or availability of the LNX Weather Network.
12. Relationship to the Weather Data Disclaimer
All use of LNX Weather Network data is subject to the separate LNX Weather Network Weather Data Disclaimer.
The Disclaimer sets out important limitations regarding accuracy, sensor performance, availability, delays, completeness and reliance on weather data.
By accessing or using the data, users acknowledge these limitations.
13. Permission, Licensing and Data Partnerships
For commercial licensing, institutional data-sharing, research collaboration, API access, bulk historical datasets or other uses not covered by this policy, please contact LNX Solutions.
LNX Solutions may amend this Data Use Policy from time to time. The latest version published on the LNX Weather Network website will apply.
